It is one of mother nature´s wonders, this diving reflex that our babies show. Whether it is a keepsake from the time in the womb or a relic of the evolution - in any case it is an ephemeral status of a short period and an unrepeatable episode in the life of the little human.
For me there is a lasting fascination in the self confidence and easieness of how many babies are accepting the element of water. Moreover, there are few other moments that display the intimacy between parents and child like this. I find it staggering how similar to each other they become underwater.
The secret of good images lies in calmness
Photos of diving babies are regularly offered during baby swimming lessons. Quite often this comes with some stress for parents and children. The "onetime" chance for such pictures can lead to frustrations and physical overload if the first attempt fails. Alternatively one has to get by with mediocre snapshots as a memento while enviously watching the pricless photos of others.
